The School of a Young Politician

Kharkiv, 2009

On the 1st of March 2009, “The School of a Young Politician”, which was organized by Eastern-Ukrainian Democracy Development Foundation with the support of the International Republican Institute, launched in Kharkiv. This year 25 participants take part at the School.

Though the School is being organized for the 8th year the interest towards it  isn’t going down. The reason is that until now there is no better place in Ukraine where young people can have a possibility to study bases of political activity.

Participants of the 1st-2nd courses, who take part at the School, will study during 2 months fundamental political topics and also the topics which were picked out by themselves, according to their own tastes. The school is organized in the format of dialogue with each of the participants and that gives the possibility to show up the best way.

By the words of Yaroslav Markevych, president of EUDDF and founder of the School: The School of a Young Politician is a kind of a special project in which many interesting tutors take part. It gives young people who take part at the School the possibility to get the knowledge that they can hardly get in the universities. That is why young people who desire to fulfill themselves in social and political life of a country but do not know what to start with, come to the School where we can tell them how to do it, share our experience and knowledge, and form necessary habits. I do hope that after the School they will become more effective and, without any doubt, will be able to fulfill themselves. Then they will become happier!”

There were 2 months filled expectations and knowledge, communication with experienced participants of political reforms and competitions for victory, which open the way of practical skills for the participants. Activists of YUOU (YUNU) also keep pace and have already started to get practical skills (exploring the process of mayor election in the town of Izyum in Kharkiv oblast), in order to see how to apply knowledge of the School and try their own skills.

Kharkiv, 2007 рік

On the 26th of November 2006 Kharkiv City Youth Public Organization “Eastern-Ukrainian Democracy Development Foundation” with the support of the International Republican Institute finished its work over the project “School of a Young Politician”, which was directed on forming of new generation of young politicians.

In the course of Project realization the organizers have invited the representatives of local councils – Oleksandr Solontay, deputy of Zakarpatska regional council. While organizing the School we have reached the compromise between necessary theoretical information and practical exercises, communication with active participants of political process. The selection of participants was organized by the interview and motivation application. Before the beginning of studies a meeting was held with the participants on which they could get acquainted and know each other’s experience and achievements in public activity. During the meeting the participants discussed the most useful topics and the goal they had while entering the School of a Young Politician. This became the basics for the participants’ interest in every class of the School.

After the termination of each seminar the organizers spread evaluation applications among the participants. It was done in order to evaluate the organization of the class, practicality of the information given and also in order to evaluate the level of coaches’ qualification etc. Analyzing the applications we found out that the participants evaluated the coaches’ work and organization of seminars very highly – average grade of evaluation was 4 from 5 maximum possible.  Final poll showed that most of participants (100%) are going to implement their knowledge in public or political activity.

After graduating the School the participants will create Clubs of Patriotic Youth in the universities they represent. Those Clubs should attract interest of young Kharkiv citizens by literature, music, movies etc.  At the present moment the participants develop the structure and directions of organization’s activity.

This is the way the School graduates influence on the development of political market of the region, realize their political ambitions understanding their responsibility before themselves and the community for positive result and effectiveness of their activity. They will continue good history of the School’s graduates.
